2nd Street Entrance & Parking

Essentia Health offers three convenient downtown parking options for our patients and visitors at St. Mary's Medical Center. The 1st Street and Green Ramp in the Essentia Health Medical District provide direct access to St. Mary's Medical Center via the skywalk. Complimentary valet parking services for patients and visitors is also available at the second street entrance to the hospital. Patient transport for those with walkers and wheelchairs is available upon request within the hospital.

Emergency Department, Floor 3

Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center is the only certified Level I Adult Trauma Center north of the Twin Cities. We have designated spaces for various emergent situations including trauma and behavioral health. This approach ensures that patients receive care in an environment tailored to their needs, fostering healing from the moment they arrive.

Public Concourse & Amenities, Floor 6

Essentia Health is proud to continue its Catholic legacy. The Chapel offers a sacred space welcoming all who seek a calming place for prayer, meditation, and reflection. Catholic Mass is celebrated six days a week.

The Great Waters Cafe offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience patients, families and hospital staff. The cafeteria features a salad bar, carving station, pizza station, entrée station and a limited selection of essential groceries. While you are dining in the cafeteria, you can take in the breathtaking view of Lake Superior. The Great Waters Café is open from 6 a.m. to midnight. Unlike traditional meal periods, we keep select stations open throughout the day, ensuring flexibility for visitors and our staff.

Whether you need prescriptions filled, over-the-counter medications, or a gift for a loved one, our pharmacy and gift shop are located together on the main concourse.

Labor & Delivery Suites

Welcome your baby into the world at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center Baby Friendly (SM) Birthplace. The birthing center at St. Mary's Medical Center is thoughtfully designed to create a safe, comforting and homelike atmosphere while receiving care from labor and delivery nurses and expert OB/GYN, Certified Nurse Midwifes or Family Medicine with Obstetrics providers. Each room features various comfort choices for labor, a minifridge, tub, couch for support person, a recliner, soft, calming lighting and floor to ceiling windows offering breathtaking lake, harbor, and city. We offer 24/7 certified nurse-midwife care with 3 midwifery suites featuring an in-room whirlpool and queen size bed.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

When your newborn needs special attention after birth, Essentia Heath St. Mary's Medical Center offers the regions only Level III NICU. Trust our highly trained, compassionate team to provide advanced care for your baby in a healing environment. Rooms are designed with both the baby and the family in mind including rooms with double occupancy to accommodate multiples. Each room also features a convertible couch that turns into a bed and a recliner, perfect for skin-to-skin contact with baby and a convenient refrigerator for mom's to store pumped milk.

Essentia Health offers the most extensive pediatric hospital care north of the Twin Cities, including a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) so you can get more of the care your family needs close to home. Helping your child overcome complex medical conditions is what we do best. Each room is equipped with a comfortable and inviting area where families can stay with their child. From birth to young adulthood, we're here to support your child and family when it matters most.
