Prostate Health
If you have a prostate problem, it can affect urination and sexual function. Our urologists treat common prostate conditions, including:
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP) – Enlargement of your prostate gland
- Prostatitis – Infection or inflammation of your prostate gland
- Prostate cancer – Cancerous growth inside your prostate
Prostate Cancer
Your urologist can screen for prostate cancer with a PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test and rectal exam. A prostate ultrasound and biopsy can also help your doctor diagnose prostate cancer.
If you have prostate cancer, your urologist and oncologist will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan. Your plan may include surgery or cryotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
Incontinence
We’ll help you manage and treat urinary incontinence or overactive bladder so you can maintain your active lifestyle. Your urologist may recommend lifestyle changes or muscles exercises to help you regain bladder control. Medications also may help to relax your bladder. You can also see a urogynecologist for treatment.
If initial treatments don’t provide relief, your urologist may advise a therapy such as:
- BOTOX® injections – Calms the nerves and bladder muscles to reduce leakage and frequent urination
- Posterior tibial nerve stimulation – Stimulates the nerves controlling the bladder and pelvic floor muscles
- Sacral neuromodulation – Provides electrical stimulation to the sacral nerve—nerve controlling voiding function in your lower spine—via an implantable device
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a common male health condition affecting up to 30 million men. Low blood flow or nerve damage in your penis can cause ED. It's important to talk with primary care doctor about ED because it can be a sign of heart disease or diabetes. Your primary care doctor may be able to treat your ED, or may refer you to a urologist.
Our urologists will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that may include lifestyle changes, medications, pumps, or surgery. If you smoke, your doctor will tell you how quitting smoking can help your ED.
Urologic Surgery
Your doctor will recommend noninvasive treatments, like lifestyle changes or medications, whenever possible. But if you need surgery to treat your condition, trust that your urologist can expertly perform your procedure. Learn more about urologic surgery at Essentia.
