Hospital Checklist
Packing a hospital bag and having the right information ahead of time will be helpful when you go into labor. You and your labor coach should have a bag packed 3 weeks before your due date.
Below is a checklist to help you prepare for your hospital stay.
For Mom:
- Photo ID and insurance information
- Bathrobe and slippers
- Lightweight pajamas or nightgown (if you're planning to breastfeed, a nursing gown or button-down top for easy access)
- Extra underwear
- Bra (a nursing bra if you're planning to breastfeed)
- Soft, warm socks (feet sometimes get cold during labor)
- Toiletries
- Hairband or barrettes and a brush
- Lip balm to soothe dry lips during labor
- Lotion or massage oil
- Hair dryer and hair products or tools
- Relaxation music and player
- Favorite pillow or body pillow from home
- Items to pass the time (cards, books, writing materials)
- Baby album
For Labor Coach:
- Directions to the hospital
- Change for vending machines and parking
- Health insurance information
- Camera, memory card, and charger
- Comfortable clothes
- Toiletries
- Cell phone and charger
- List of phone numbers of family and friends to call when your baby arrives
For Baby:
- Undershirt
- Stretch suit, gown or special "welcome home" outfit
- 1-2 receiving blankets
- Sweater
- Cap or hat (if temperature is under 60 degrees or for wind and sun protection)
- Warm outer baby blanket or quilt
- Infant car seat
