Overview
We realize that fertility treatment can be difficult—both physically and emotionally. Our care team is here to listen to your concerns and support you through the entire process.
Our fertility doctors will work with you to identify the cause of your condition. We will help you understand your options and determine the best treatment to help you begin or expand your family.
Specialists & Subspecialists
All gynecologists are trained in fertility. However, reproductive endocrinologists have specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility in both men and women.
When to See a Specialist
Talk to your primary care doctor or make an appointment with a fertility specialist if you:
- Are under age 35 and have been trying to conceive for 12 months
- Are over age 35 and have been trying to conceive for 6 months
- Have a known reproductive health issue, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Experienced multiple miscarriages

Your First Appointment
You’re encouraged to attend your first appointment with your partner. This helps your doctor get a full picture of your medical histories. Plus, you’ll appreciate having a loved one by your side for support. During your appointment, your doctor may:
- Review you and your partner’s medical history, including medications you take
- Ask questions about your sex life and sexual history
- Learn about your lifestyle and work environment
- Physically examine you
- Order lab tests and/or imaging tests
Diagnostic Tests for Infertility
Rely on us to help identify the reason you’re facing fertility challenges so you can choose the best treatment. Your doctor may recommend:
- Blood tests – Look at hormones that affect your reproductive system
- Semen analysis – Measures the health and amount of sperm
- Ultrasound – Examines your uterus and ovaries, finds problems like cysts and fibroids, and/or identifies ovarian follicles (fluid-filled sacs that contain immature eggs)
- Sonohysterogram (SHG) – Creates pictures of the inside of your uterus using ultrasound and a saline solution
- Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) – Uses fluoroscopy and contrast dye to check your uterus and fallopian tubes
- Postcoital or Huhner’s test – Analyzes sperm in cervical mucus after sex
Fertility Treatments
Trust your care team to explain your treatment options* which may include:
- Fertility drugs – Increase hormones in your body to stimulate ovulation
- Intrauterine inseminations (IUI) – Place sperm directly in the uterus
- Surgery – Treats physical conditions, such as fibroids or blocked fallopian tubes
Insurance Coverage
Insurance coverage for fertility testing and treatment varies. Contact your insurance provider to learn what your policy covers. You may want to ask:
- Does my plan cover fertility treatments?
- If treatment is covered, what percentage of the cost is covered? Will there be a deductible first?
- Do I need a referral for coverage of fertility testing or treatment?
- What types of fertility treatments are covered?
- How many treatment cycles are covered?
- Is there a maximum benefit per calendar year? Is there a lifetime maximum benefit?
