Ross Bengtson, MD

Dr. Ross Bengtson started working at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s-Brainerd Clinic in August 2003.  

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul and his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. He completed his general surgery residency from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. 

While in Brainerd he has served as the medical director of the Weight Loss Surgery Program, Chief of Trauma Services, Chief of Surgery, and Board of Directors of the Brainerd Lakes Surgery ambulatory surgery center.  

He is board certified and is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He offers a wide scope of elective and acute care general surgery services in the Brainerd Lakes area.  He specializes in laparoscopic abdominal procedures, hernia repairs, cancer care ranging from breast, colon, thyroid, lung and other cancer operations and some limited vascular surgeries.

Dr. Bengtson has raised his family in the Brained lakes area and enjoys spending time traveling with them and outdoor activities throughout the year.
