Dr. Schultz is the chair of cardiology and Director of the Structural Heart Disease program at Essentia Health Heart and Vascular Center. He joined Essentia Health in 2014.
Dr. Schultz earned a bachelor’s with distinction from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska. Subsequently, he completed his residency training with highest distinction at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN being elected by faculty and staff as the best overall resident in his class. He went on to complete his fellowship training in cardiology and serving as chief fellow at the University of Minnesota before completing both his interventional cardiology and structural heart disease training at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA.
Dr. Schultz participated in many of the pivotal trials leading to the approval and expansion of transcatheter aortic valve replacement in the United States. He has presided over the structural heart disease program at Essentia Health since his arrival in 2014 and has helped Essentia Health achieve quality outcomes which rank among the top 1 percentile in the nation.
Dr. Schultz’ interests include high risk percutaneous coronary intervention, mechanical circulatory support, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
